THE AFFORDABLE MALDIVES

By Chuen Buan – 5th OCT 2021

Are you excited to go on a dream overseas getaway after this pandemic? Or long to once again escape the rigors of city life and laze at some palm-fringed private island with overwater bungalows, powdery white-sand beaches, and crystal clear waters?

When it comes to perfect holiday vacations, one of the top destinations that usually comes to our mind is the Maldives – known for its luxurious resorts and paradise-like grandeur. With the recent regulation changes and development in the Maldives, opportunities opened for us to enjoy the beautiful country. The islands now offer a diverse range of preferences to meet the needs of every traveler.

With that said, allow us to lay out on the surface the affordable Maldives vacation options for you to examine and consider. Hopefully, this kickstarts in making your dream holiday getaway a reality while still keeping a reasonable budget. And, if you need further assistance in planning your itinerary, we will be glad to share ideas and collaborate with you based on our extensive practical knowledge.

Talk About Accommodations

There are many lodging facilities available in Male city and Hulhumale island. We strongly recommend staying on Hulhumale island because of its proximity to the airport. The place is also not crowded compared to Male city. Cleanliness and safety are essential factors to consider when choosing a hotel in Hulhumale to ensure a peaceful rest every day.

One such hotel is Plankton Beach. Located on the beachfront in Hulhumale, the hotel boasts views of the lagoon and sea – a terrace and water sports amenities. Guests can enjoy a meal at the restaurant. Free WiFi is available throughout the property and reaches the beach area. Each room at this hotel is air-conditioned and equipped with a flat-screen TV with satellite channels. There is a kettle in the room ready for use.  Every room has a private bathroom. And for your convenience, toiletries and a hairdryer are provided free of charge.

Aside from resorts and hotels, other options for lodging in the Maldives include guesthouses and liveaboards.

Talk About Activities

Although the Maldives is suited for an easygoing and laid back vibe, it will be a waste if you miss out its breathtaking wonders and fun happenings around. We should always play hard to rest well! 🙂 Let us take a look at some of them then.

  1. Maldives Sand Bank. Every visitor would love to step foot onto the gorgeous white powdery beach. Spend most of their time just relaxing and basking in its beauty, or take a leisure swim around the sandbank. When you are in the Maldives, time seems to stand still.
  2. Local Islands. There are many local islands or small islets inhabited by the Maldivians. You can take a short trip to one of them and be inspired and amazed by their local culture.
  3. Snorkeling / Diving. The Maldives is a popular destination for diving fanatics. A thriving marine life and home to manta rays, whale sharks, and sea turtles, to name a few. If you are interested to know more about its aquatic inhabitants, here is the link to our previous article HERE
  4. Cruises. Widely favorites are dolphin and sea cruises. Depending on chance, you might see dolphins swimming and leaping with delight.
  5. Male city tour. The capital region of the Maldives. Expect it to be packed and full of life. Join a city tour to experience and understand the fascinating Maldivian people and their rich cultural heritage. For more information, check out our blog on the things to do when in Male city HERE

Talk About Food

Meals are provided for guests staying on island resorts. And because they cater to tourists from all over the world, the food is usually an international buffet with a local twist. As for hotels in Hulhumale, they are inclusive of breakfast only. If you are visiting Male city or any local islands, do try their cuisines such as Masroshi (Tuna Stuffed Chapati), Bis Keemiya (Samosa with tuna and egg), Garudhiya (Fish Soup), and others. From their food variety, you can tell that fish is abundant in the Maldives. It is their primary exported goods, in case you were wondering 🙂

In closing, you can plan a trip and make arrangements yourself, which can be difficult; or work with a reputable travel agent. As for us, at The Lazing Wanderer (a travel company), we specialize not only in island resort packages but also in adventure or local cultural tours across the Maldives.
